Years ago, NUMU’s founder Gunars Elmuts became a vegan for the wellbeing of our planet and the welfare of animals. But with this positive lifestyle change came one big problem: finding a delicious slice of pizza made with plant-based cheese.
As someone living in New York with a deep love of pizza, he needed to do something. And that something was creating his own plant-based cheese. It took years of collaborating with pizzerias throughout New York City, but eventually his passion and persistence paid off. He perfected a plant-based cheese that looked, tasted, and felt like dairy mozzarella.
NUMU was born.
As it turned out, Gunars wasn’t the only one who wanted a delicious plant-based cheese. Soon, it was being carried by the best pizzerias in the city and across the country. And in 2021, Whole Foods Market swapped the largest plant-based cheese brand for NUMU in all their deli pizzas nationwide.
Needless to say, our story is still being written.
